Tamnavulin

Scotland / Speyside · Founded 1966

A Speyside distillery in the village of Tomnavoulin, founded in 1966. It supplies malt for Whyte & Mackay blends and also bottles a sweet, fruity single malt.

History & character

Tamnavulin was built in 1966 at Tomnavoulin, near Ballindalloch in Speyside, by the Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Company, a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers. It was built to meet blenders' growing demand for malt whisky.

In 1993 Whyte & Mackay bought Invergordon Distillers, and Tamnavulin was mothballed in May 1995. It resumed production after United Spirits acquired Whyte & Mackay in 2007; in 2014 Whyte & Mackay was sold to the Philippines-based Alliance Global.

Today it is run by Whyte & Mackay and, alongside Invergordon, produces whisky for the company's blends. Its core single malts include Double Cask.
